I can’t say I have that much to write about myself… I guess you would say I’m a personal trainer, but that’s only one part of the picture.
As a South Asian woman, I understand the culture and the stigma around brown women in fitness. Just focus on getting into medicine - stop spending so much time in the gym! I've heard it all. I'm about re-defining this space for South Asian women and making fitness approachable and enjoyable.
So what led me down this path? I have a Bachelor's degree in Biomedicine majoring in Anatomy > Physiology, and by the end of 2023 I would have completed my Honours research project working on Digestive Physiology > Nutrition. I'm quite the nerd! However, while completing my Bachelor's degree, I became a certified Personal Trainer. This decision led me to where I am today, the founder of Virya Fitness, where I hope to empower South Asian women with their fitness and nutrition.
Virya is a Sanskrit term which translates to "energy", "diligence", "enthusiasm", and "effort", all qualities which we embody here at Virya.
